SpamCombat
uses a powerful set of filters to prevent spam from entering your inbox:
Complex Filter, Whitelist, Blacklist, HTML Validator, DNSBL filter, and the Bayesian filter.
The Whitelist and Blacklist are the standard lists where you can add conditions to
automatically mark an email as good or spam. The messages can be whitelisted/blacklisted
based on any words from the message header and/or body, and on the sender's IP
address. SpamCombat is provided with a solid Blacklist which allows to catch the
most known kinds of spam and virus emails.
DNSBL filter consists in comparing the
senders' IP addresses against lists of known spam databases using Public
Blacklists (also called DNSBL lists).
These databases are maintained and updated daily.
The Bayesian filter is the most powerful
spam filter based on the analysis of the message content and mathematical
calculation of spam. The advantage of the Bayesian filter is that the filter can
be trained by each individual user by categorizing each received email as either
spam or good; after you categorized a few emails the filter begins making this categorization by itself. If the filter makes a mistake,
you
re-categorize the email; the filter learns from its mistakes. The accuracy of
the Bayesian filter increases with time. "Well trained" filter can determine up
to 99.5% of spam emails coming into your inbox.

Message Source, and Message body (decoded message). HTML preview is absolutely

One of the particularities of G-Lock SpamCombat is the capability to determine
an email's "country-of-origin" and use this information to block messages from
any specified country. The connecting mail server's IP address is used by G-Lock
SpamCombat to determine an email's country of origin.
About a dozen countries are notorious for sending spam. China, Korea and Russia
are among the top spam producing countries. With the "Country-Of-Origin"
filtering capability of G-Lock SpamCombat you can block all email originating
from these countries with one mouse click. You can select yourself which
countries to block and instantly reduce spam volumes.
Can G-Lock SpamCombat bounce spam emails back to the sender?
| Our customers often ask if G-Lock
SpamCombat has the capability to bounce spam emails back to the
spammers. It seems to be a very nice feature... But our answer is NO.
G-Lock SpamCombat cannot bounce spam emails and we think this feature is quite pointless.
Here is why:
1) Nowadays most spammers do not use their real email addresses in To
and From but forge addresses that refer to no user, or enter the emails
of some innocent users. So, even a spam message bounces, in most cases
it will not reach the real spammer but end up to mailbomb innocent users
as well as mailbomb the admin of your ISP who sees all the failed
bounces come back to the mailer-daemon. And actually, it is the
violation of the ISPs' Acceptable Use Policy.
2) The bounce feature sends back a "forged" bounced message from
mailer-daemon@yourisp.com
- which is completely meaningless after the email has already been
successfully delivered.
3) The rejects from a real mailer-daemon happen at the time of the MTA
transaction between the mail servers. So, sending back a bounced
message, for example, a couple of hours later when you check your email
does nothing except verify that you are using the "bounce" feature from
the other Spam Blocker. The real MTA transaction was completed hours earlier,
and your email address was already verified as being deliverable to the
spammer.
The conclusion is that the other Spam Blocker's "bounce" feature does nothing to
help you reduce spam you are "bombarded" with every day but only
contribute to email abuse. |
Is the message preview safe and secure?
When you preview the emails retrieved
by SpamCombat, no notice to the email
senders is sent letting them know that the email was opened or read. Thus,
nobody will know whether your email address is valid or not if you don't want
it.
Can G-Lock SpamCombat filter spam on web-based accounts?
SpamCombat supports any of the standard POP3 and IMAP mailboxes,
and with the use of 3rd party applications you can configure it to work with
Hotmail, Yahoo, and other web based accounts.
If you have Hotmail Popper utility you can retrieve emails from Hotmail
accounts.
With IzyMail or Web2Pop, you can let SpamCombat work with Yahoo
web-based email accounts.

"Awesome spam filter"
This is the best spam blocker I've come across. The configuration is a little
involved but the included documentation (help) is excellent and easy to follow,
so RTFM to get the best of this product. It started filtering 90% of spam
immediately due to the various filtering options and only got better as it was
trained. I've used Spambayes and Norton Antispam, neither of which worked and
both fouled up Outlook. This is independent of your mail client and intercepts
mail at the server level. Items that are intercepted by mistake are easily
returned to your inbox. This is simply the best product out there. Steve

"Excellent spam blocker"
This spam filter is a joy to use after the problems I had with another one. I am
not technical but the G-Lock back up team were really quick and helpful with
their advice which was given in language I could work with. The spam combat
filtering is working well. It's great not having the spam downloading onto my
system.
