10-Strike LANState Pro Review
A smart choice for network administrators (Review by ProjectBeta Editor)
After working as network administrator for over 10 years, I can honestly say: this job is not fun as I thought it to be; you have to deal with strange connectivity issues, create virtual host maps, monitor and manage dozens of computers, and the list of more difficult yet time-consuming tasks goes on.
Since all the network-related problems usually need to be fixed in the speed of light, having a detailed network map and instant access to remote hosts' properties and resources is a must for every administrator, not depending on the size of the network. Then and only then you can get the work done.
So far, I've had experience with several network mappers and monitors, and LANState Pro is the one I like best. To be fair, it's not the most powerful software on the market, but its features are more than enough for me to monitor a corporate network with 72 hosts.
Just as you could expect from such a solution, LANState Pro builds virtual maps (those can be saved, printed, and exported) on autopilot, offers background monitoring and instant notifications (never again some host will be down for hours), manage devices (turn on, shut down, restart, access registry, view logs, etc.) remotely, send messages, and so on.
Some may ask: if it's not the most powerful one, why do you like it best? It's because LANState Pro offers the best value for money. Priced at $249, it remains one of the most affordable solutions on the market. Since the company I work for hasn't a truckload of money to spend, LANState pro saves us lots of money with its "no extra charges" policy. Put simply, the program is priced by the number of devices doing the monitoring or mapping, not the number of devices being monitored or mapped. Thus, if you are monitoring/mapping 100 devices from one computer you only need a single user license.
All the sophisticated features combined with a reasonable price allow us to proudly put the 'ProjectBeta Editor's Choice' badge here. Thanks for the great product, 10-Strike Software!
There is also a standard version of LANState available.Thoroughly tested by ProjectBeta Editor on February 4, 2013
